Nicolas Jackson is urged to “grow up” by Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea suffers yet another loss.
With the intention of turning around Chelsea’s fortunes after a miserable 12th-place finish in the Premier League the previous season, Pochettino was brought on as the club’s head coach this summer.
However, Chelsea’s nightmare shows no signs of stopping as the west Londoners have only won one of their first six Premier League games this season.
The Blues fell 1-0 to Villa on Saturday at Stamford Bridge after playing poorly once more. Malo Gusto was dismissed before Ollie Watkins scored the game-winning goal.
Jackson, a summer acquisition who had once again failed to score and had received his fifth caution of the year, was suspended for Chelsea’s forthcoming match after Pochettino was directly questioned about him during the game.
Since Jackson, 22, joined the Blues from Villarreal in a £30 million deal, there has been a lot of pressure on his shoulders because of Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes and his modest goal total so far.
Jackson was brought up after Pochettino’s team lost to Villa. We were chatting, we need to mature as a team, he retorted.
Young player Nico is getting used to playing in the Premier League. Although winning is the goal of the game, young players must learn.
We are therefore disappointed. Too many situations like this exist.
Although Gusto was dismissed, Pochettino won’t in any way hold him responsible for Chelsea’s defeat.
If a tackle from Gusto was necessary, Pochettino responded, “It is our responsibility.”
Since events occasionally occur in football and have an effect on the game, I won’t charge Malo Gusto with anything.
Chelsea will play once more on Wednesday when they host Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
