Zinedine Zidane will assume management of Newcastle with the owners’ approval.
Currently, Zinedine Zidane is one of the top football managers around, but that may not last for long. If the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) is successful in acquiring Marseille, the Real Madrid legend is said to have an agreement in place to take over as manager of the squad.
According to a story in France Bleu Provence, Zidane has a theoretical agreement in place with the PIF, who are also the owners of Newcastle United, to take over as manager of his childhood club should they ever acquire the Ligue 1 squad.
The Saudis are eager to submit a proposal in an effort to buy Marseille from its current owner, Frank McCourt, even if it appears that he is now unwilling to sell.
It is believed that PIF selected OM as the finest club to take over due to their reputation and stature in French football. Additionally, this would provide them the opportunity to engage in direct conflict with Qatar, a competitor nation that owns Paris Saint-Germain.
Zidane left Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 and hasn’t had a job since. He has since been connected to Man United and the France national side, though. The Frenchman was left jobless when each of these didn’t materialize.
The 51-year-old has had an incredibly successful career as a manager, leading Real Madrid to two La Liga titles and three Champions League triumphs in his two seasons there. But nothing compared to eventually winning a championship with the team he had played for as a kid.
