With a message on social media, Eden Hazard announced his 32-year-old retirement from football.
Since being released by Real Madrid in the summer after four seasons with the club and just 76 appearances, the 32-year-old has been without a club.
The former Real Madrid and Chelsea player penned: “You must listen to yourself and stop when it is appropriate.”
I’ve decided to terminate my career as a professional football player after 16 years and more than 700 games.
“I was able to realise my dream; I played and enjoyed myself on numerous fields all over the world.”
“I had the good fortune to work with outstanding managers, coaches, and teammates during my career. Thank you to all of you for the wonderful times; I shall miss you all.
I also want to thank the teams I’ve played for, including LOSC, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, as well as the RBFA for selecting me for the Belgian national team.
A special thanks to my family, friends, advisors, and those who have stood by me through good and difficult times.
Finally, a sincere thank you to all of my fans for supporting me over the years and for your encouragement wherever I have performed.
“This is the perfect time for me to spend with my loved ones and try new things.” My buddies, we’ll see you off the pitch soon.
