Mykhailo Mudryk has received a strong warning from Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who insists that his player ‘has to improve’ and is’still not at his best’.
Mudryk scored during Saturday’s 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Stamford Bridge, however Nicolas Jackson was inserted on 66 minutes to take Mudryk’s place.
Despite his goal, Pochettino still has high expectations for the 22-year-old international from Ukraine who joined Chelsea for £88.5 million in January.
When asked if Mudryk’s substitution was the result of the player “running out of gas,” Pochettino responded: “No.
He played well, in my opinion, but he still needs to get better. He’s still not at his best in my opinion.
With Jackson in front, I believe we needed to make a change to apply a little bit more pressure.
We had a couple opportunities in such situation, and the score was closer to 3-0 than 2-1.
While speaking more generally about Chelsea’s tie with Arsenal, Pochettino praised Cole Palmer.
The Argentine head coach admitted to the BBC, “I think we lost two points.” We’re unhappy, but you can’t change the game’s analysis and evaluation.
