The former football player and current head coach of Como in Serie B, Cesc Fabregas, is set to take on his first coaching role after holding positions at Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona.
After Como defeated Ascoli 1-0, Moreno Longo was fired. Several reports, including one from Fabrizio Romano, suggest that the 36-year-old former midfield player will take over as Como’s coach in lieu of Longo.
After ending his remarkable playing career with the club last summer, Fabregas was previously named coach of the Como youth team.
Though he had worked with Como’s youth team, Fabregas’s appointment represents his first time coaching the first team. During the previous season, he participated in 17 Serie B games for the team.
After accumulating 21 points from 12 games, Como is presently eight points behind Parma, the league leaders, and in sixth place in the Serie B rankings.
Fabregas had great success during his playing career, winning the World Cup and the European Championship twice with the Spanish national squad. During his time with Chelsea and Barcelona, he also won league titles in England and Spain, respectively.
