Reportedly, Liverpool has joined the growing list of teams showing interest in acquiring Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City. As per a recent report from 90min, the Reds have entered the fray among several clubs aiming to provide an exit route for the English midfielder from his challenges at Etihad.
Despite joining Manchester City just 18 months ago, Phillips, aged 27, has struggled for playing time, having started only four Premier League matches under Pep Guardiola’s management. Looking ahead to the upcoming European Championship next summer, the midfielder acknowledges the necessity for more game minutes to secure a spot in Gareth Southgate’s plans.
Consequently, a potential mid-season transfer away from Etihad seems likely for Phillips. While Newcastle, under Eddie Howe, stands as a prominent candidate to secure his services as cover for the suspended Sandro Tonali, other clubs, notably Liverpool, also show keen interest.
Recent reports suggest that Liverpool has ‘recently made inquiries’ regarding the signing of the 27-year-old midfielder. Additionally, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United have all made overtures, adding to the competition alongside Newcastle and Liverpool.
Moreover, beyond the English clubs, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have also expressed interest in providing Phillips an opportunity outside England, potentially allowing him to take on a fresh challenge in European football.
