Paulo Xavier recently departed from his position as Real Madrid’s Latin American scout and has now made the move to join Arsenal. He had been on loan at Real Madrid since September 2017 but has already commenced his duties in the Premier League.
At Arsenal, Xavier will be focusing on South America, collaborating with two other scouts in his new role. Previously, he played a significant part in chief scout Junior Calafat’s team at Madrid, where they also experienced the departure of Gonzalo Novillo to Real Betis last summer.

Before his tenure at Real Madrid, Xavier had a stint at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) from 2015 to 2017, where he worked alongside Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu. Edu, responsible for Xavier’s recruitment at Arsenal, had connections with him prior to Xavier’s brief spell at Manchester United in 2017.
Arsenal’s recent success in tapping into the South American market has been evident with signings like Gabriel Martinelli from Ituan in 2019 and Marquinhos from Sao Paulo in 2022. Xavier’s arrival at the north London club signifies a strategic move to continue capitalizing on talent from this region.
Xavier is anticipated to reveal his new position within the next few days.
