Wilson’s future has become less certain this month as Newcastle, in an effort to adhere to the Premier League’s financial regulations, had to sell players to ensure compliance with profit and survival rules.
Since the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund takeover in 2021, Newcastle has invested over £400 million in new players. Wilson, along with other key players like Miguel Almiron, Kieran Trippier, and Jamaal Lascelles, has been linked to a possible January departure as the club seeks to balance its budget.
Newcastle might be willing to sell the 31-year-old for as low as £18 million, attracting attention from rival Premier League clubs who see it as a potentially attractive deal.
In recent seasons, Wilson has established himself as one of the most reliable and sought-after goal scorers in England. Chelsea has shown considerable interest in the striker, while reports suggest that Arsenal and Manchester United are also monitoring the situation in their search for new attacking options.
Manager Ed Howe addressed the rumors during a press conference, stating that there has been a lot of talk, some of it untrue, and expressing his desire to keep Wilson on board. Despite interest from big European clubs like AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, Howe emphasized Wilson’s commitment to Newcastle.
Wilson, capped nine times by England, moved from Bournemouth to St. James’ Park in 2020, scoring 46 goals in 102 games across all competitions. He signed a new one-year deal with Newcastle in September, securing his stay until 2025.
Regarding rumors about Kieran Trippier, Howe clarified that the England international has never expressed a desire to leave the club. Trippier is considered a crucial part of Newcastle’s long-term plans, and there has been no indication of his intention to depart, despite persistent links with Bayern Munich.
