Chelsea has potentially unearthed a future Ballon d’Or winner in 16-year-old Ecuadorian talent Kendry Paez, according to football agent Manuel Sierra. Securing Paez in 2023, Chelsea outbid several clubs for the midfielder, who is expected to remain with Independiente del Valle until he turns 18 in 2025. With a deal that could reach up to €20 million, Paez is considered on par with the likes of Barcelona’s Lamine Tamal, recognized as one of the best 16-year-olds in professional football.
Sierra, in a conversation with AS, expressed his belief that Paez could enter the Ballon d’Or discussion in the coming years if he continues to develop professionally. Sierra emphasized Paez’s exceptional talent, predicting that, with the right guidance, he could be a strong contender for the prestigious award within the next six, seven, or eight years.
Describing Paez as a player with immense potential, Sierra highlighted the importance of professionalism in the young talent’s development. The agent expressed optimism about Paez becoming a key player for Chelsea by July 2025, underlining their collective efforts in nurturing his skills.
Paez has already acquainted himself with Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, spending time with the team in January. Additionally, the teenager has represented Ecuador alongside future Chelsea teammate Moises Caicedo, showcasing his international prowess by scoring for his country.
