Renowned striker Karim Benzema has once again found himself linked to Manchester United and Arsenal, but he vehemently denies any intention to leave Al Ittihad, dismissing claims as “completely false.”
In the summer of 2023, Benzema embarked on a new chapter, signing a lucrative three-year deal, estimated at £172 million per year, to join Al Ittihad from Real Madrid. However, recent speculations hint at the Frenchman’s discontent in Saudi Arabia.
Although the 36-year-old’s return to training from a vacation in Mauritius was delayed, swirling rumors question his happiness. Reports surfaced, suggesting Benzema had requested a “temporary” departure from Al Ittihad. His agent was scheduled to meet with the club’s management amid interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
Contrary to the speculation, Benzema strongly refutes any desire to part ways, stating to L’Equipe, “It’s all nonsense! The French media is at a loss for ideas these days. Bigger is preferable.”
The Saudi Pro League, attracting notable European players, sees Benzema as a key figure. Any potential exit would require approval from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport, along with the agreement of Marcelo Gallardo, Al Ittihad’s coach, and Roman Planes, the sporting director.
Despite Lyon reportedly considering him and a potential move back to the Premier League capturing attention, Benzema insists he has not expressed dissatisfaction to Al Ittihad. The French striker has accumulated a staggering 354 goals during his illustrious 14-year stint with Real Madrid, making him a sought-after figure.
Benzema’s presence could significantly impact Manchester United, currently struggling in the Premier League standings with a lack of goals. United has scored only 24 goals, sitting eighth in the standings. Arsenal, too, could benefit as they aim for the Premier League crown. While the Gunners recently secured a 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace, consistent goal-scoring remains a challenge.
In his 15 appearances for Al Ittihad, Benzema has notched nine goals and provided five assists. Despite his individual success, Al Ittihad faces stiff competition for the Saudi Pro League championship, with Al Hilal leading the standings by a significant margin.
While Benzema’s future has sparked interest, he asserts that the rumors are unfounded, leaving the footballing world to wait and see whether the iconic striker will remain in Saudi Arabia or entertain a return to the Premier League.
