After Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday, manager Mauricio Pochettino attributed the team’s poor away performance to issues of “personality and character.” The Argentine coach expressed concern as Chelsea has suffered losses in five of their last six Premier League away games.
Pochettino addressed questions about the team’s struggles on the road during Chelsea’s defeat at Anfield, stating, “I think it’s part of our personality and character. We must have greater self-confidence.” He emphasized the need for improved confidence away from home, acknowledging the team’s progress in home games but highlighting the importance of performing at the same level on the road.
The manager issued a warning to his players, indicating that unless they improve, the outcome of their Carabao Cup final rematch with the squad at Wembley next month will be the “same result.” Pochettino mentioned that the neutral setting might bring a different dynamic, but the key is improvement to avoid a challenging outcome.
“It will undoubtedly differ in a neutral setting. It’s advantageous since we wish to compete. And the outcome will be the same if we compete in the same manner as we do now. It’s going to be hard if we don’t get better. In this type of game, learning is what matters to us. We were up against the best team in the league. It’s healthy for us to believe that we can do better.”
