Chelsea is contemplating Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pochettino, following a disappointing season.
According to reports from Sports Zone, the Premier League club is considering parting ways with Pochettino after a series of setbacks, currently standing 11th in the Premier League. Chelsea’s recent loss to Wolves marked their 10th defeat of the season in 23 games, leaving them closer to relegation than the fourth-placed team.
Sports Zone suggests that Chelsea’s owners may be inclined to make an immediate managerial change, with Behdad Eghbali eager to bring in the Spaniard Alonso. However, Todd Boehly might be less open to an instant switch in management. Alonso is reportedly attracting interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich as well.
Chelsea’s struggle is evident in their negative goal difference this season, having conceded more goals than they scored. Pochettino, despite bringing in new players last summer, has failed to make a positive impact, with the club’s only success being qualification for the Carabao Cup final.
The recent defensive vulnerabilities, conceding eight goals in the last two league games, have heightened the need for change. Fans are actively calling for a managerial switch as Chelsea faces challenges in both attack and defense.
