Robbie Mustoe, following Arsenal’s emphatic victory over West Ham, identifies a player whom he believes is often overlooked and potentially undervalued by Mikel Arteta. The commanding 6-0 triumph at the London Stadium made a significant statement, especially given the pressure from previous matches and the successful performances of title contenders Manchester City and Liverpool over the weekend.
Despite initially missing some opportunities, notably by Leandro Trossard, Arsenal’s energy surged once they breached the opposition’s defense. Trossard, in particular, received praise for his exquisite finish for the fourth goal just before halftime, while his role as a false nine caused problems for West Ham’s defense.
On The 2 Robbies podcast, Mustoe expressed his belief that Trossard, despite his significant contributions, does not receive the recognition he deserves. “I’ll go on to say that this weekend’s underappreciated performer is Leandro Trossard. He’s a little gem, in my opinion,” Mustoe remarked. He recalled Trossard’s impact in the previous season when Arsenal struggled with goal-scoring issues, emphasizing the importance of keeping him in the starting lineup.
However, Mustoe highlighted Arteta’s preference for other players like Gabriel Jesus over Trossard, suggesting that the Belgian may find himself on the bench in the next fixture, despite his talent and contributions. Trossard’s status as Arsenal’s second-highest scorer in the Premier League this season, with 22 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions, seems to have gone unnoticed.
Although he has started only 18 league games since joining the club just over a year ago, his goal-scoring ability is commendable. Arteta may argue that he acknowledges Trossard’s quality, especially given the risk involved in his signing when Arsenal were competing for the title. Trossard’s consistent development and impact on the team deserve acknowledgment.
