Jamie Carragher suggests that Thiago Silva’s time at Chelsea may be coming to an end following his overshadowing by younger teammates during the showdown against Manchester City.
Although Silva was sidelined due to injury against City, the performances of Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill at the Etihad Stadium were commendable, with Carragher even likening Disasi to Chelsea legend John Terry.
Despite Silva’s past excellence and contributions to the team since joining in 2020, his form this season has raised questions, especially considering his age and expiring contract at the end of the season.
Carragher believes that given the emergence of Disasi and Colwill, Silva’s return to the starting lineup seems unlikely, barring injuries to other players.
With the cup final on the horizon, Carragher suggests that Chelsea should begin planning for the future, hinting at the need for younger talents like Disasi and Colwill to take precedence.
Chelsea possesses several promising young center-backs aside from Disasi and Colwill, such as Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana, indicating that they could adequately cover for Silva’s potential departure.
The uncertainty surrounding Silva’s future has been further fueled by his wife’s social media comments criticizing Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea manager, following a defeat to Wolves, though she later apologized for her remarks.
