The 2023-2024 season has been one of disappointment for Manchester United due to their poor start.
Currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier League, they trail fourth-placed Aston Villa by eight points. Their Champions League campaign ended disastrously as they finished at the bottom of their group behind Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen, and Galatasaray.
Despite the struggles, there have been recent signs of improvement as they embarked on a seven-match unbeaten streak before a defeat to Fulham, sealed by an Alex Iwobi goal in the dying moments at Old Trafford.
A significant topic of discussion this season has been the performance of winger Antony, who has only contributed one goal and one assist in 25 appearances. Ahead of their clash with Fulham, manager Ten Hag acknowledged Antony’s need to step up, emphasizing his untapped potential.
Ten hag stated, “He has to demonstrate his abilities, and he will. He possesses immense potential, although he hasn’t showcased it recently. I am aware of his talent, and he must now validate it. He will likely receive opportunities, but it’s ultimately up to him.”
Furthermore, Ten Hag highlighted the competition within the squad, with players like Amad Diallo and Omari Forson vying for positions. He emphasized the need for players to prove themselves on the training ground, indicating that the starting lineup is not set in stone.
Looking ahead, Manchester United will face local rivals Manchester City in their next fixture on Sunday afternoon.
