Martial has been absent since falling ill at the start of December, with little information provided by manager Erik ten Hag regarding his whereabouts.
While Ten Hag has often cited illness or described him as unreachable, it has now been revealed that Martial has been dealing with a groin injury, requiring surgery that will sideline him for over two months.
Manchester United issued a statement confirming Martial’s successful surgery and estimated recovery time of around ten weeks.
Consequently, he has already missed seven games and is not expected to return until mid-April, posing a challenge to his comeback before the Premier League season concludes.
With just five matches remaining, including the April 13 fixture against Bournemouth, Martial’s current contract with United, set to expire at the end of the season, may not see an extension, despite an option for a 12-month renewal.
Given the circumstances, United might allow Martial to depart on a free transfer in the summer after his nine-year tenure at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, the club is actively scouting for a new striker as the summer transfer window approaches. While there have been rumors linking Ajax forward Brian Brobbey, aged 21, to United, reliable sources suggest he is not currently a target for the club.
