Since his arrival in the Premier League from Lyon in January 2022 for a reported fee of €42.10 million, the Brazilian midfielder has made a significant impact.
With 97 appearances for the Magpies, Guimaraes has contributed 13 goals and 13 assists while primarily operating in a deep-lying midfield role.
However, acquiring the 26-year-old would come at a high price, with reports suggesting a transfer fee exceeding €100 million.
Newcastle United is determined to retain Guimaraes, setting his release clause at €115 million, thereby increasing the challenge for potential suitors.
Despite Manchester City’s appeal as the Premier League and European champions, Guimaraes may face stiff competition for playing time, particularly with Rodri established in a similar role.
While joining Manchester City might seem enticing, Guimaraes could face uncertainty over guaranteed minutes.
Moreover, other top European clubs, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, have also shown interest in the Newcastle United midfielder.
With Newcastle currently sitting in 10th place in the league, Guimaraes may consider his options, especially as the club is unlikely to replicate its previous top-four finish.
