In a recent report, it has been revealed that Frank Lampard is being considered as a surprising candidate to assume the role of head coach for the Canada national team. This unexpected development comes as the Canadian Football Federation purportedly included Lampard on a list of potential managers, as disclosed by The Telegraph. This consideration arises in anticipation of Canada co-hosting the 2026 World Cup alongside Mexico and the United States.
Following his short-lived and unsuccessful stint as Chelsea’s interim manager in the preceding season, the former England international has remained without employment. However, Lampard, aged 45, reportedly maintains a keen interest in returning to managerial duties, given the right opportunity. Canada, in turn, is said to be interested in engaging in discussions with him regarding the vacant coaching position.
It remains uncertain whether Lampard would find the prospect of coaching in Canada appealing. Since John Herdman’s departure from the role last summer to assume leadership at Toronto FC, Mauro Biello has served as Canada’s interim manager. Notably, while Lampard concluded his playing career with a year at New York City FC in the United States, he has yet to undertake a managerial role abroad. This potential move to Canada represents a significant shift in Lampard’s career trajectory and could offer him a fresh challenge on the international stage.
