Potter, who previously managed Chelsea and Brighton, has opted not to pursue the position. The 48-year-old has been without a managerial role since being dismissed from Chelsea in April 2023. In December, it was speculated that Potter could be a leading candidate for the managerial position at Ajax if they were to part ways with Erik ten Hag.
Currently, Potter is the frontrunner at 3/1 to assume the managerial role at United, according to Bet365. Gareth Southgate, the manager of England’s national team, closely follows at 4/1. Other contenders listed include Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton, Ruben Amorim of Sporting, and Thomas Frank of Brentford, all at 8/1 odds.
Dan Ashworth, expected to become United’s sporting director, previously appointed Potter at Brighton, where he garnered praise for his tactical acumen. Under Potter’s guidance, Brighton achieved a top-half finish in the Premier League standings during his final season.
