Raphael Varane has announced his departure from Manchester United this summer upon the expiration of his contract, concluding a three-season tenure with the club.
The esteemed defender joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in August 2021 and was officially unveiled in front of the home supporters at the Theatre of Dreams before the opening-weekend victory against Leeds United.
Varane has brought considerable class and experience to the club in his 93 appearances thus far. Notably, he played a pivotal role in securing Manchester United’s first major trophy in six years by clinching the 2023 Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium. Under Erik ten Hag’s guidance, Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 2-0, with Varane showcasing his expertise alongside Lisandro Martinez.
In addition to his defensive prowess, the 31-year-old has found the back of the net twice for the Reds. His first goal came in a home win against Brentford several years ago, while his second crucial strike secured three points in a 1-0 victory over Wolves at the start of the current 2023/24 season.
Varane is renowned for his composed presence at the heart of the defense, where he has consistently displayed undeniable talent since joining the club. He has amassed 67 Premier League appearances, 58 of which have been starts.
Despite being sidelined since the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on April 4 due to injury, Varane is diligently working towards his recovery and aims to make a comeback before the conclusion of the season. Manchester United is scheduled to play Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion before competing in the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.
The club expresses its utmost respect for Varane’s contributions and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.
