The 32-year-old’s contract with Manchester City ends after next season, and he’s been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia this summer, with MLS also emerging as a potential destination for the Belgian international.
Kevin De Bruyne recently completed his ninth season with Manchester City, returning from leg surgery to help Pep Guardiola’s team secure a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Despite undergoing surgery for a hamstring injury in August, De Bruyne scored 23 goals in 26 games during the 2023-24 season and made a remarkable comeback in January.
De Bruyne has been directly involved in 180 Premier League goals and scored over 100 goals for Chelsea, netting key goals across various competitions.
His latest goal came in April against Brighton, and his most recent appearance was in May when Chelsea lost the FA Cup Final to Manchester United.
The start in north London might be De Bruyne’s last game for Guardiola’s team, as Saudi Arabian clubs are increasingly interested in signing him, and talks have reportedly taken place between his agents and MLS team San Diego FC.
While Manchester City is likely to discuss extending his contract, De Bruyne has expressed openness to a future move to Saudi Arabia, citing the significant financial incentive as he approaches the end of his career.
“You have to be honest at my age. The money offered is substantial, and it’s something to consider as my career winds down,” De Bruyne told HLN Sport. “If I play there for two years, I’ll make a significant amount of money.”
Rumors suggest four Manchester City players, including De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Ederson, and Matheus Nunes, could move to the Middle East. City has previously engaged in discussions with Saudi teams, facilitating moves for Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte.
Reports indicate Atletico Madrid is keen on signing Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, with the Spanish club already making an offer for the Argentine.
Despite Alvarez’s solid performance, scoring 19 goals this season, he remains second to Erling Haaland at City. Atletico wants to add the World Cup winner to their squad.
Alvarez has four years left on his Manchester City contract, and Guardiola has ensured he plays regularly. Although the 24-year-old hasn’t shown any desire to leave, Atletico Madrid, joined by Barcelona in their interest, hopes to secure his transfer. Alvarez has expressed contentment with his increased playing time this season.
City and Guardiola have shown a willingness to let key players go if they wish. With rumors of Ederson considering a move to Saudi Arabia and De Bruyne contemplating a Middle East transfer, Manchester City remains open to significant offers for their top talents.
