According to rumors from Spain, Chelsea is eyeing a move for Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, despite Manchester City previously rejecting an offer from Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez recently finished his second season at City, scoring 19 goals to help Pep Guardiola’s team win the Premier League.
The 24-year-old played the eighth-most minutes among City outfield players, appearing in 54 matches across all competitions.
However, Marca reports that Alvarez is considering a move to raise his profile, knowing he will always be behind Erling Haaland at City.
Atletico Madrid has already inquired about a potential transfer for Alvarez, but City “flatly denied” the approach. Even if City were open to selling, Atletico would struggle to meet a minimum price of €80 million (£67.9 million).
Alvarez, who joined City in 2022 for £14 million from River Plate, still has three years left on his contract.
Chelsea is reportedly planning their own move for Alvarez, but City’s firm stance makes it challenging.
Chelsea has a good relationship with City, having recently signed Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling while Mateo Kovacic moved to City from Stamford Bridge last year.
Nevertheless, convincing City to part with Alvarez will be difficult due to his versatility and goal-scoring ability.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is also interested in Alvarez as they seek to replace Kylian Mbappe, who has joined Real Madrid.
PSG has considered a bid for Nigerian international Victor Osimhen, whose release clause is €130 million (£110.8 million), but Napoli’s demands are high.
