Jack Grealish showed clear distress as he exited the pitch at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night. Despite starting promisingly in Manchester City’s 6-2 FA Cup win over Luton Town, Grealish suffered a new injury and had to be substituted before halftime.
The England winger, visibly emotional on the bench, sought comfort from teammates as he watched City play without him.
The injury occurred just past the 30-minute mark when he pulled up after making a pass. Replays suggested a muscle tweak, and despite trying to continue, Grealish realized he couldn’t, leading to Jeremy Doku replacing him before halftime.
Post-match, Pep Guardiola confirmed it was a groin injury, noting, “I didn’t speak to doctors but I think he complained a bit about the groin. Maybe a little bit similar.
He felt really good but unfortunately was injured again at the beginning of the game.”
This injury is a setback for Grealish, who recently returned from another injury sustained during the Champions League match against Copenhagen in mid-March.
His recovery timeframe is uncertain until Manchester City’s medical team completes their evaluations.
This comes at a challenging time for City, with crucial fixtures against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal approaching. Guardiola hopes for a swift recovery for Grealish, whose presence on the field is vital.
Grealish’s ongoing injury issues add to a frustrating season, highlighting the unpredictability and physical demands of top-tier football.
Manchester City will now focus on his rehabilitation, hoping for his timely return to aid their campaign across multiple competitions.
