According to top reporters, England’s underperforming manager Gareth Southgate is set to become Manchester City’s manager if Pep Guardiola leaves this summer.

Former England player Jermaine Jenas believes FA officials have reason to be hopeful about potentially pursuing Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola.

Gareth Southgate’s resignation as Three Lions manager, following four major tournament campaigns including back-to-back European Championship final losses, leaves the FA with a challenging decision on who will lead the talented side.

City coach Guardiola is reportedly on the FA’s radar, and they are even willing to wait until his contract expires in 2025.

Guardiola has previously expressed a desire to manage internationally one day, but given his history with Spain, it seems unlikely they will be involved.

Jenas, 41, thinks England is one of the few nations that could attract Guardiola. “Pep’s Catalan roots make him an obvious candidate. I don’t think he’ll manage Spain,” Jenas told Mirror Football before last weekend’s Formula E Grand Prix.

“Pep will manage internationally one day. It’s just a question of whether it will be Brazil, Portugal, England, or Germany. He will do it at some point.”

Jenas believes England needs a manager who enjoys playing on the front foot, mentioning candidates like Newcastle’s Eddie Howe and free agent Graham Potter.
