Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is scheduled for an MRI scan to evaluate the severity of an ankle injury he picked up during Norway’s Nations League game against Austria on Monday.
The 25-year-old midfielder had to leave the field after twisting his ankle in a challenge, sparking concerns about a possible long-term absence from the squad.
The injury appeared serious, with Norway manager Stale Solbakken admitting after the game that it “looked bad.”
Odegaard was later seen using crutches the following morning before boarding a private jet from Oslo to London.
He returned to London for further medical examinations, with Arsenal’s medical team set to conduct scans to determine the full extent of the injury.
Norway’s team doctor, Ola Sand, confirmed that Odegaard would have an MRI scan at Arsenal’s facilities later in the day.
Speaking to Norwegian media outlet VG, Sand said, “He is on his way to London and will undergo an MRI there later today.”
When asked for an initial assessment, Sand provided little information, stating, “Nothing beyond a strong overstepping; we are waiting for Arsenal’s findings.”
The lack of a detailed update has left both Arsenal fans and management on edge as they wait for the scan results.
The timing of the injury is especially unfortunate for Arsenal, who are preparing for a crucial run of matches after the international break.
Manager Mikel Arteta’s team faces a tough schedule, starting with a high-stakes north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Following that, they will travel to Italy to face Atalanta in the Champions League, with a match against Manchester City just three days later.
The potential loss of Odegaard, a key player in Arsenal’s midfield, could severely impact their performance in these important fixtures.
Arsenal’s midfield options are already limited due to recent injuries and suspensions.
Declan Rice, another crucial midfielder, is set to miss upcoming games after being sent off in Arsenal’s last Premier League match against Brighton.
Moreover, Mikel Merino, who was expected to strengthen the squad, is facing a significant delay in making his debut after sustaining a shoulder injury during training.
This leaves Arteta with few choices in midfield, making Odegaard’s possible absence even more troubling.
As Odegaard undergoes further tests in London, Arsenal will be anxiously awaiting the MRI results, hoping for a positive outcome that will see their captain back on the field sooner rather than later, especially with such an important stretch of games ahead.
