After limping off during Manchester City’s match against Arsenal, Rodri could face an extended spell on the sidelines.
Earlier in the game, Rodri had already been involved in a collision with Kai Havertz, who knocked him unconscious for two minutes after just two seconds of play.
Fans also called for a penalty when Rodri was brought down during a corner, following Erling Haaland’s goal that gave City the lead.
However, the injury occurred when Rodri planted his studs into the ground and appeared to jar his knee, immediately collapsing in severe pain.
Although he managed to walk off after receiving treatment, Mateo Kovacic replaced him.
Rodri shook his head and headed straight for the tunnel after passing Pep Guardiola. This setback comes after Kevin De Bruyne was sidelined with an injury against Inter Milan, which kept him out of the matchday squad. Guardiola had downplayed De Bruyne’s injury in a pre-match interview, calling it “not a major, massive” issue.
Guardiola will likely face questions about both Rodri and De Bruyne in his post-match comments. Midway through the first half, Ricardo Calafiori equalized for Arsenal.
City are also dealing with long-term injuries to Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb. Just 48 hours after the Arsenal game, the Blues will face Watford in the Carabao Cup.
