“Excluded for one or two seasons” – The FA has officially announced that Manchester City has been banned from participating in both the Premier League and Champions League next season, following a surprising announcement from UEFA and the FA earlier today.

Manchester City, the current Premier League champions, are facing a significant Financial Fair Play (FFP) case, with 115 charges brought against the club.

As the hearing progresses, the club awaits the outcome, which could have major implications for their future in English football.

There has been much speculation about the potential consequences if City are found guilty. The harshest penalties being considered include expulsion from the Premier League or even the English Football League (EFL).

Other possible sanctions, such as a substantial points deduction or a transfer ban, could severely affect the club’s performance.

However, City continue to maintain their innocence and focus on their long-term goals.

One of the key moves the club has made during this uncertain period is the renovation of the North Stand at Etihad Stadium, which will increase its capacity from over 53,000 to more than 60,000 by the 2025-26 season.

This development demonstrates City’s ambition to remain at the top of English football, despite the ongoing FFP case.

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness told *Football Insider* that this decision shows City’s confidence and preparation for the future, regardless of the hearing’s outcome.

Wyness also noted that City have consistently defended their position throughout the investigation, while the stadium expansion signals their commitment to growth.

He pointed out that even if City were to be suspended from the Premier League for a time, the renovations would likely be completed during the ban, indicating the club’s long-term planning.

Manchester City have faced discussions about ticket prices and attendance in recent years, but Wyness believes they will have no issue filling a 60,000-seat stadium, especially with increasing tourist interest in Premier League matches.

The expansion would also boost matchday revenue, strengthening the club’s financial position.

However, if the club is expelled from the Premier League, filling such a large venue could become more challenging, particularly if they are forced to fight their way back up the leagues.

Despite the uncertainty around the FFP case, Manchester City remain committed to their growth strategy, confident they can overcome any obstacles. Regardless of the outcome, their long-term vision for success remains clear.
