I’d like to thank West Ham and my players. In football, it’s about the output. Despite our high production in the game, the result is disappointing. They outperformed us in both areas, awarded two shots, and a penalty compared to our numerous touches, scenarios, and chances in the box, which we didn’t capitalize on. To win, we need to do better in converting those opportunities. Today’s result reflects that.
Is the forwards’ inability to capitalize on chances a concern?
It is what it is. We need to create more and keep attempting shots until we convert. Against a strong West Ham team, we dominated the box and had fewer opportunities for the opposition. However, it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
Was this the most frustrating evening as a manager?
Absolutely. This is football. Usually, a team that creates this much wins games. We faced similar situations against Brighton and Liverpool, but we need to improve our goal-scoring abilities to secure victories more convincingly.
How did you feel about the VAR call on the first goal?
It’s disappointing. The officials stated it wasn’t definitive. Unfortunately, current technology doesn’t always provide clear answers. However, it’s over, and there’s nothing more we can do about it.
Can the team address the issue with converting chances internally?
Our players are crucial, and we’ll work on improving situations, enhancing training, and boosting confidence. We have to make the right choices during crucial moments in the game to secure wins.
Do the players lack confidence?
I don’t think it’s a confidence issue. It’s about precision in execution. We need to choose the right passes, find players in free positions, and take those opportunities to win games.
Do you think more camera angles should have been available for the first goal?
I’m uncertain. We need to win the game despite the current limitations in technology. We created numerous scenarios, which should have been enough given the chances we had in the game.
Should the 77 touches in the box prompt you to address conversion issues?
West Ham performed well. We didn’t defend well on the occasions that mattered most. They excel in timing their attacks and are efficient in the box. It made a significant difference today. Overall, it was a disappointing evening, and we should have achieved better results based on our game performance.
